Tourism in Italy grew in the fourth
quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, up 1.2% in
terms of arrivals and up 11.1% in terms of presences, Istat said
on Thursday.
In particular, the presence of tourists already residing in
Italy grew by 5.9% while foreign presences went up by a whopping
15.6%, according to the national statistics bureau.
In general, 2024 ended with 458.4 million presences in hotels
and tourist residences - up 2.5% compared to the previous record
registered in 2023, Istat said.
Italy ranked second among EU countries in terms of tourist
presences, surpassing France and only ranking behind Spain, the
only country ahead of Italy also in terms of foreign tourism,
according to provisional data from Istat's survey on the
'Movement of clients in tourist residences'.
