One person has died following an armed attack on the Italian church of St Mary in Sariyer, Istanbul, CNN Turk reported on Sunday.
The victim is said to be a homeless Turkish national identified only by the initials C.T.
According to early reports, two masked gunmen entered the church during Mass and fired into the air before shooting dead the victim when he got up to protest.
"We strongly condemn this cowardly attack," said Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya on X, formerly Twitter.
"Efforts are ongoing to capture the attackers," he added.
Police are investigating.
