The second event promoting Italian wines and wineries of excellence, 'Top Italian Wine Roadshow,' organised by Gambero Rosso, a leading company in the publishing and media promotion of Italian food and wine, was held today in Nairobi.
The event, which showcased 45 wineries representing a large part of the Italian territory, was inaugurated by the Italian Ambassador to Kenya, Roberto Natali, together with Gambero Rosso CEO, Luigi Salerno, and Acting Director Market Development of the Kenyan Tourist Board (Ktb), Fiona Ngesa, and was attended by a large audience of sector operators, restaurateurs and Kenyan wine enthusiasts who attended masterclasses and guided tasting sessions.
"Italian wine producers have returned to Nairobi and are more numerous than last year. This indicates that, over time, Kenyans increasingly appreciate Italian wine. In the first ten months of 2024, the import of our wines increased by about 12 per cent and our country is still the third largest supplier, after South Africa and France, with good room for improvement. Currently we can say that one out of every 10 bottles of wine you find in supermarkets and restaurants in Kenya is Italian," the ambassador said. During the course of the day, Gambero Rosso also awarded prizes to Italian restaurants, wine shops and importers that have distinguished themselves for quality, research and proposition of Italian culture and tradition through food and wine.
