World number one Jannik Sinner said
after beating world bumber 303 Jesper de Jong of the Netherlands
in the third round of the Italian Open Monday that now it was
time to raise the level as he faces world number 226 Francisco
Cerundolo of Argentina in the last 16.
"I think every match is useful to me and that's a good sign for
me. I'm not where I hope to be, but there's still room for
growth. I'm happy to play another match here, Rome is special",
said the 23-year-old from South Tyrol, who is back after a
three-month doping ban.
"Let's see what happens now and try to raise the level", he
added.
"It will be a tough match (against Cerundolo), he's already
beaten me, but I need matches like this to understand what level
I'm at". "Certainly - he concluded - this was a different match
from the evening match, but I started well, then I had a drop
which is normal, but I'm happy with the first set. Unfortunately
he got hurt afterwards and I'm sorry, he's a very good guy".
