Fincantieri and Kayo, an Albanian
state-owned company based in Tirana, have signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) to initiate a collaboration to promote the
development of the shipbuilding and naval industry in the Balkan
country. The understanding aims to create an innovative,
sustainable, and high-value-added industrial ecosystem that
supports the country's maritime defense needs and stimulates
economic growth.
The Memorandum includes the possibility of Fincantieri and
Kayo working together to create a hub for shipbuilding and
refitting in the region. This step is also taken by taking
advantage of Albania's strategic position in the Mediterranean
and increasing attention to enhancing the maritime sector. The
idea is to build and manage naval and shipbuilding
infrastructure, build and ensure the maintenance of marine
units, and implement technical and professional training
initiatives.
In this sense, Fincantieri will offer its expertise to
support Kayo in developing projects with high technological and
environmental standards.
The agreement was signed yesterday in Durres by Andrea Viero,
senior vice president of the Business Support Military Ships
Division of Fincantieri, and Ardi Veliu, CEO of Kayo, in the
presence of the Italian Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, the
Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, and the Minister of Defense
of Albania, Pirro Vengu.
