The Bundeskartellamt, or German
Antitrust Authority, has approved the creation of the joint
venture between Rheinmetall and Leonardo. The new company,
Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles, will have its
headquarters in Rome, according to a note from the German
authority, and "if the Italian Ministry of Defence wins the
contract, LRMV will act as prime contractor and systems
integrator for upcoming orders of military armoured vehicles, in
particular main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles."
According to the Italian Ministry of Defence, at least 60% of
the value-added work must be completed in Italy.
