Accusations that Israel is carrying
out a genocide of Palestinians in Gaza are unacceptable, the
president of the Italian Jewish communities, Noemi Di Segni,
said on Holocaust remembrance Day Monday.
"The challenge of memory concerns content and coherence, a
coherence that appeals to the dignity and respect of survivors
towards whom on the one hand they express great affection and
closeness, with tears and emotion, and then they turn around and
accuse them, Israel and the Jews, of the parallel genocide", she
said during a preview of a Rai state broadcaster special feature
at the Lower House.
"Genocide, concentration camp, starve, Nazi are words that have
very precise meanings engraved on our wounds and cannot be
launched to express political dissent and denounce phenomena
that never existed", she added.
