A summit at Palazzo Chigi involving,
among others, Cabinet Secretary Alfredo Mantovano, Bank of Italy
Governor Fabio Panetta, national antimafia prosecutor Giovanni
Melillo, the commanders of the national police force and the tax
police, and intelligence chiefs upped controls on databases amid
a Perugia probe into a suspected rogue tax cop who allegedly
snooped on many public figures including mostly rightwing
politicians and some celebrities including rapper Fedex and
soccer great Cristiano Ronaldo.
"The problems relating to illicit access to public computer
databases, also in light of the recent cases of dossier-tagging
were addressed in a meeting at Palazzo Chigi", sources said.
"Administrative and organisational paths have been identified,"
explains Palazzo Chigi, "to make the control system more
stringent, with appropriate alerts to prevent abuses and with
periodic checks".
