Italy is a quarter of the way to
meeting its target for simplification under the EU-funded
post-Covid National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), Public
Administration Minister Paolo Zangrillo said on Monday.
"The NRRP requires us to simplify 600 procedures that burden our
administrations and do not make the relationship between the
public administration, citizens and businesses easy," said
Zangrillo in a video message to a conference in Florence
organised by the association of regional public services
companies Confservizi Cispel Toscana.
"We have already reached a quarter of the target set for 2024,
in this way giving a boost to investments and construction
sites," he added.
The NRRP seeks to make the Italian economy greener and more
modern with the help of almost 200 billion euros in EU grants
and low-interest loans.
However, there are fears it will not be possible to complete all
the projects by the deadline of 2026 and Rome is in talks with
Brussels on possible modifications to the plan.
The European Commission said Friday that it was still making
assessments for approval of the long-delayed payment of the
third tranche of NRRP funding worth 19 billion euros.
Payments are made by the EU on condition that agreed targets
have been met.
To date Italy has received nearly 67 billion euros in funding.
