Government sources said Tuesday that
former COVID 19 pandemic czar and army General Francesco Paolo
Figliuolo is to be named by cabinet later Tuesday as
extraordinary commissioner for the reconstruction of
Emilia-Romagna after deadly and devastating floods in the
northern region last month left at least 15 dead and caused
billions of euros in damage to property, crops and
infrastructure.
There is "agreement" in the majority on the name of Figliuolo as
commissioner for reconstruction after the floods that hit Emilia
Romagna and part of Marche and Tuscany at the beginning of May,
government sources said, confirming earlier reports.
The go-ahead is expected for the appointment, which will be
discussed in the cabinet meeting starting at 6pm, with a decree
law with urgent provisions for the reconstruction of the
territories affected by the floods on the agenda.
Potenza-born Figliuolo, 61, commander of the Inter-Forces Summit
Operations Command, served as extraordinary commissioner for the
Covid-19 emergency from March 2021 to March 2022.
