Florence prosecutors on Wednesday
requested that ex-premier Matteo Renzi, the leader of the
centrist Italia Viva (IV) party, and 10 other people be sent to
trial in relation to alleged financial irregularities regarding
Open, a foundation created to fund Renzi's political activities.
Former reform minister Maria Elena Boschi, former sports
minister Luca Lotti, former Open president Alberto Bianchi and
the businessman Marco Carrai are also among those facing
possible indictments.
A preliminary hearing is set to take place on April 4.
Senator Renzi, meanwhile, said in a statement that he had filed
a criminal complaint in Genoa against three Florence prosecutors
for allegedly breaching the Constitution and several laws in
their handling of the case.
