The Ambassador of Italy in Finland, Nicola Todaro Marescotti, met in Helsinki the Finnish Minister for Youth Policy, Sport and Physical Activity, Sandra Bergqvist. The topics of bilateral cooperation in the field of sport were at the centre of the meeting, with particular attention to youth policies, social inclusion through sport and the exchange of good practices between the two countries, in view of the visit to Finland that the Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi will make on 20 and 21 May at the invitation of his colleague Bergqvist.
The importance of sport as an instrument of intercultural dialogue and social cohesion, including at school level, was also underlined.
Particular attention was paid to the prospects related to the upcoming Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Milan Cortina 2026. Opportunities for collaboration were explored in view of the event, which focuses on key issues such as environmental sustainability, inclusion and accessibility, the enhancement of territories, technological innovation and the legacy of the Games for future generations. In this context, a stage of the Milan Cortina 2026 Promotional Roadshow is scheduled to take place in Helsinki on 21 May, organised with the support of MAECI and in collaboration with the Milan Cortina Foundation and the main institutional and sports partners, and which will be opened by the Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi. This initiative is an important opportunity for dialogue between institutions, sector operators and the Italian and Finnish sports world.
