Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian described the Karabakh region as 'an inseparable part of Azerbaijan's territory' during an ongoing visit to Baku. "We insist that the rights of the Azerbaijani people must be respected and that Karabakh must belong to the State of Azerbaijan," the Iranian president added, Mehr reports, bringing to his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev the greetings of the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. "Our presence here in Azerbaijan is to strengthen relations between the two countries," Pezeshkian added during a press conference with Aliyev.
The Karabakh region, which lies in its southern part on the border with Iran, has historically been disputed between Armenia and Azerbaijan while Baku, since the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, has been conquering areas that were controlled by Yerevan.
