Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Baku for an official visit. "During my visit, which will take place at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, we will discuss the expansion of cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, economy and science, as well as corridors between Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia," Pezeshkian said before departing Tehran, according to Irna reports.
Relations between Tehran and Baku have deteriorated due to Azerbaijan's military ties with Israel, while diplomatic relations between the two countries had been temporarily severed after an armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran in 2023. The Islamic Republic also opposes the creation of the Zangezur Corridor, a project to connect Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Region, an Azerbaijani exclave bordering Iranian territory and partly Turkey, with a route without checkpoints from Yerevan through the Armenian region of Syunik.
