The Embassy of Italy in Yangon, in collaboration with the Embassy of the United States and the Thomas Jefferson Centre, will bring the exhibition 'Rethink Beato: A Visual Story of Mandalay' to Mandalay, organised together with the Myanmar Photo Archive.
The exhibition will be held from 28 March to 12 April at the Thomas Jefferson Centre and will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the visual memory of Mandalay and Burma in the 19th century through the unique work of Felice Beato (1833-1909), an Italian photographer who settled there in 1886 after a long wandering through Asia. Beato was among the first to take photographs in East Asia and one of the first war photographers, and captured the spirit of Myanmar during his stay in Mandalay from 1887 to 1905.
