A journey into women's graphics. This is what the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia is proposing on the occasion of Design Day. '
Pink' is an exhibition dedicated to Italian graphic designers who have contributed to defining the visual identity of Made in Italy since the 1940s. The exhibition, which will remain open until 26 February, is a journey through posters, advertisements and editorial projects to discover the feminine side of Italian graphic design.
the project was conceived and curated by the Graphic Design Documentation Centre of the Italian Visual Communication Design Association, on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pink showcases the figures and contributions of female graphic designers active in Italy between the 1940s and the present day. A period characterised by great changes for the Italian context and society.
The exhibition aims to highlight the female contribution to the evolution and development of the profession and of Italian visual culture; and, more generally, how little their work has been recognised in the conception of iconic images, which in some cases have entered the imagination of millions of people.
Among the works on display are those of Anna Maria Klinz, an Italian art director and graphic designer who had already reached the position of art director in a major publishing house such as Mondadori in the 1950s. Here she was art director for many years and supervised every aspect related to books: covers, advertising, page layouts. She was later art director for Il Saggiatore.
