From 5 to 7 February, a delegation from the National Research Council (CNR), Italy's largest public research body, led by its president, Maria Chiara Carrozza, will be visiting Mexico.
The delegation includes the director general, Giuseppe Colpani, the director of the Chemical Sciences and Materials Technologies department, Lidia Armelao, the director of the Human and Social Sciences and Cultural Heritage department, Salvatore Capasso, and the director of the Earth System Sciences and Environmental Technologies department, Francesco Petracchini, as well as other directors of research institutes.
The agenda of the visit, promoted and coordinated by the Italian Embassy in Mexico, includes a series of meetings with various Mexican scientific and academic institutions.
In particular, the delegation will be involved in meetings with the new Minister of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation, the National Institute of Anthropology and History and the Centre for Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav).
An entire day will also be dedicated to the state of Guanajuato, where meetings will be held with the Instituto de Innovación, Ciencia y Emprendimiento para la Competitividad, the local government and the territory's scientific institutions.
The CNR already boasts numerous collaborations with Mexico, including with Cinvestav and the Instituto de Innovación in Guanajuato, which have led to the funding of several bilateral research projects over the years. In addition, the Council is strongly committed to five projects of the new Executive Programme of Scientific and Technological Cooperation for the years 2025-2027, an agreement signed on 22 May 2024 between the foreign ministries of the two countries. The topics covered by these initiatives include energy, sustainability, geology, health, artificial intelligence and precision agriculture.
This visit is further confirmation of the CNR's interest in strengthening collaboration with Mexico, promoting the joint development of research and innovation projects in areas of common interest.
Scientific collaboration between the two countries is actively supported by the Italian Embassy in Mexico City, which, through the work of the scientific attaché, Roberto Marani, encourages dialogue and the definition of joint projects between Italian and Mexican institutions.
