On the occasion of Holocaust Victims' Memorial Day, the Italian Ambassador to Vilnius, Emanuele de Maigret, inaugurated a temporary exhibition at the embassy premises entitled 'Samuel Bak in Italy: Dialogues of Contemporary Art', a retrospective exhibition dedicated to the Lithuanian Jewish artist Samuel Bak, which also exhibited, among others, Burning Shtetl, a painting created by Bak in the 1960s during his stay in Rome.
The exhibition of Bak's works aims to establish an ideal dialogue with the Italian artists represented in the embassy's art collection, particularly those active in the years when the painter lived in Italy (1959-1965), such as representatives of the Scuola di Piazza del Popolo (Mario Schifano, Franco Angeli, Tano Festa) and the Forma 1 movement (Carla Accardi, Achille Perilli).
The exhibition was realised by the Italian Embassy in cooperation with the Jewish History Museum 'Gaon of Vilnius' in the Lithuanian capital.
