Mothers in Italy are ever more alone
and penalised, Save The Children said Tuesday.
Single women with children are those most at risk of poverty,
said the tenth Save The Children report 'The
Tightrope Walkers - Motherhood in Italy 2025', released ahead of
Mother's Day on Sunday.
In 2024, the employment gap between fathers and mothers with at
least one minor child was almost 29 percentage points and only
one in two single mothers, between the ages of 25 and 34, works,
the report said.
The Istat stats agency ranking of the most 'mother friendly'
regions sees the Autonomous Province of
Bolzano, Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany in the top positions, while
Basilicata is in last place preceded by Campania, Puglia and
Calabria.
