The Organisation of American States (OAS) and the Italian food group Ferrero together to promote access to rights for young people in the Americas through sport and play. This was the objective of a conference promoted in Washington with the support of the Permanent Observer Mission of Italy to the OAS and the Embassy of Italy in the United States.
The event, hosted at the Italian diplomatic headquarters in the US, discussed the importance of adopting active lifestyles and practising sports as facilitators of equity, social inclusion and human development. The ceremony was opened with words of welcome from the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, followed by a speech from Italy's permanent observer to the OAS, Ambassador Roberto Nocella. "We are very pleased to host the OSA and one of our great partners, the Ferrero Group, at the embassy for an event that is very much in line with Italian sports diplomacy. We believe that sport enables the respect of human rights such as the right to physical and mental health and the full development of the human personality, without any form of discrimination," Nocella said.
"The recent cooperation agreement between the OSA and Ferrero International is a clear example of a successful collaboration between the public and private sectors in an effort to help ensure the rights of children, adolescents and women and to seek gender equality in sport in the Americas," noted Ferrero International's Vice President of Institutional Affairs and Corporate Communications, Matteo Mattei.
Ferrero's Corporate Social Responsibility programme 'Joy of Moving', already present in the Americas in the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina, and recently launched in Uruguay, seeks to have a positive impact by encouraging families to embrace movement, active lifestyles and develop life skills in a joyful and vibrant way.
