The project 'Strengthening the Capacity and Coordination of the Judiciary and Law Enforcement Authorities in BiH to Effectively Address Corruption and Organised Crime', financed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Control (UNODC), was launched on 22 October in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The project aims to support the judiciary sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a focus on the fight against corruption and organised crime, by strengthening the capacities and coordination of the different Bosnian-Herzegovinian institutions competent in this field. Italian counterparts to be involved in the project include the Ministry of Justice, the Superior Council of the Judiciary, the Superior School of Magistracy, and the National Anti-Corruption Authority.
Present at the launch event were UNDOC Representative for South-East Europe, Danilo Rizzi from Italy; the Chargé d'affaires of the Italian Embassy in Sarajevo, Lorenzo Donatelli; the Director of the AICS Office in Tirana, Stefania Vizzaccaro; and magistrate Edmondo De Gregorio, a member of the Cabinet of the Minister of Justice. In his speech, De Gregorio significantly recalled the Italian magistrates - such as Giovanni Falcone - who dedicated their lives to the fight against organised crime, indicating them as a source of inspiration for the project's activities.
