The celebrations of the 'Day of Italian Sport in the World' organised by the Italian Embassy in Prague, as part of the sports diplomacy project promoted by the Farnesina, the Ministry of Sport and the Italian National Olympic Committee, will continue on 21 and 22 September in Brno, in Lower Moravia. The protagonist of the initiative, reads a note from the diplomatic office, will be the coach of the Czech national beach volleyball team, current world champion, Italian Andrea Tomatis, who, with the support of Czech and Italian assistants, will hold a training session with a final competition reserved for ten promising young under-14 and under-16 volleyball players selected by the Sokol Brno I sports club.
The competition to be held on Sunday, 22 September, at 10 a.m., at the Sokol sports complex (Kninicky 149) will be attended by the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy, Laura Calligaro, Brno's councillor for sport, Tomas Aberl, the Italian honorary consul in Brno, Pavel Zezula, as well as regional and city authorities, while on Saturday, 21 September, the event will be visited by MP Petra Quittová, a member of the Italy-Czech Republic Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Within the framework of the initiatives that started on 7 September, the Italian Ambassador Mauro Marsili emphasised that the 'Italian Sport Day' was not only intended to showcase athletic excellence, but also to deepen the link between Italy and the Czech Republic through the universal language of sport. For the Italian diplomat, sport has also become increasingly important as an instrument of growth diplomacy, as witnessed by the numerous appointments and initiatives that since 2023, on the impulse of the Vice-President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, have hinged on the visibility of major sporting events to amplify Italy's promotional capacity by attracting tourism, telling the territories, culture, industrial and technological excellence of the districts. To conclude the programme of events in the Czech Republic, Tomatis will travel to Prague on 28 September, where he will coordinate a series of training sessions with volleyball and padel exhibitions aimed at the general public at the Písecna sports centre.
