At the 'Brothers Miladinov' cultural centre in Struga, south-western North Macedonia, the 63rd edition of the prestigious international 'Struga Poetry Evenings' festival was inaugurated, an event that for decades has been conveying a valuable message of cultural unification through the power and beauty of words. The event was held in the presence of the President of the Republic, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, the Minister of Culture and Tourism Zoran Ljutkov, eminent poets and writers of different nationalities, as well as a delegation from the Italian Embassy in Skopje, consisting of the reader, Prof. Sonia Miserendino, and Dr. Daniele Marcelli.
Among the participants of the festival, which will continue in the coming days, will be Italian poet Claudio Pozzani, whose presence was supported by the Italian Embassy in Skopje. Pozzani, a poet, writer and director of the Genoa International Poetry Festival, has been awarded numerous prizes and awards and his poems have been published and translated into more than 10 languages. The poet is also the founder of the 'Poetry Room', which is a reference point for established and emerging poets, critics, translators and simple admirers. Pozzani was also welcomed to the embassy premises for a cordial meeting with Deputy Head of Mission Mario De Rosa, who is also passionate about verse and the author of five poetry collections.
This was an opportunity to recall past editions of the festival, which has seen Eugenio Montale and Edoardo Sanguineti awarded the 'Corona d'oro' and in which, in 2022, Dr. De Rosa himself participated by presenting the much-appreciated poetry project 'Macedonian Glances' together with his late Spanish colleague Ernesto Heredero del Campo, who died prematurely recently.
