Gattinoni put a patriotic spin on
the runway this year in honor of the 70th anniversary of the
country's becoming a parliamentary democracy.
The tricolor flag motif was in the spotlight at Gattinoni,
whose Venezuela-born designer Guillermo Mariotto paid homage to
the Republic with an haute couture, hand-painted dress made of
crinoline with raw-edged, hand-painted organza appliques and a
plastron embroidered with long shards of rhodoid and crystals.
The dress was created with very light fabrics and materials
and weighs only 300 grams - exactly the same weight as Italy's
red, white and green flag.
The train, made from strips of organza, is reminiscent of
the red, white, and green vapor trails left by the jets of the
Frecce Tricolore (Tricolor Arrows), the Italian Air Force's
aerobatics team.
