After New York and London, Milan is opening its women's wear fashion week on Wednesday with 70 shows and 105 presentations debuting spring-summer 2016 collections through Monday.
The bi-annual event takes place in the midst of the Milan Expo 2015 world's fair, which has relaunched Italy's financial capital as an international destination - helping attract many Chinese designers and brands, as well as high-profile collateral events.
And adding further buzz to the fashion week is the decision to relocate part of the events from downtown Milan to brand-new locations in the hip Porta Nuova district.
Meanwhile on Wednesday night Vogue Italia and the city of Milan have organized the sixth Vogue Fashion's Night Out.
Stores will remain open in the evening with cocktail parties, live performances and limited-edition products for sale.
Special happenings during the shows include the Milan debut of Chinese luxury brand Koradior.
Indeed Milan's fashion week is hosting China Events with shows by, among others, two of the most famous Chinese designers - Huizhou Zhao and Xiaoyan Li.
Celebrations are also scheduled for the 10-year anniversary of Vogue China and for the Fashion Shiner project of online store JD.com, the No. 2 Chinese e-commerce company, which will debut collections by four designers including Gu Lin, who dresses the China's first lady Peng Liyuan, among others.
The Chinese online store will also be providing a platform for big as well as medium and small-sized Italian labels for its over 100 million users with Made in Italy products available on its Italian Fashion Mall.
Meanwhile, the American Foundation for AIDS Research Amfar on Saturday will host a gala with a guest list including Hollywood actress Dakota Johnson, designers Peter Dundas and Angela Missoni and Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani.
Diesel founder Renzo Rosso will receive the Award of Courage during the gala to be held at Milan's La Permanente museum for his personal commitment in the fight against Aids as well as for his company's support of Amfar's actions.
A cocktail, dinner and auction will be followed by live performances by Debbie Harry and Swedish pop duo Icona Pop.
And events during Milan's fashion week will include boutique openings with Gucci inaugurating its new flagship store in Via Montenapoleone.
The fashion house renovated its flagship boutique following the brand's overhaul under new creative director Alessandro Michele who stepped in after the almost decade-long tenure of Frida Giannini and will be debuting the spring-summer 2016 women's wear collection on the first day of shows Wednesday.
Another highly-anticipated opening is Krizia's flagship store in Via della Spiga under new Chinese owner Zhu ChongYung.
The Chinese entrepreneur bought Krizia, one of Italy's oldest ready-to-wear brands, in 2013 and is pushing the fashion house through a major revival strategy, including several retail openings.
Part of the fashion week events will be held at the brand new Unicredit pavilion in Piazza Gae Aulenti in the Porta Nuova district where up-and-coming designers will showcase their collections.
Debuting designers will include two rising stars - the Israeli Daizy Shely and Croatian-born Damir Doma.
And top-league players Arthur Arbesser, Peter Dundas and Massimo Giorgetti, the man behind hip Italian label MSGM, will showcase their first collections as creative designers of, respectively, Iceberg, Roberto Cavalli and Emilio Pucci.
