The town of Bolsena, on the lake near
Viterbo north of Rome of the same name, has become the only
Italian site to be included on Forbes' list of the 10 most
beautiful small towns in Europe.
The international business magazine cites the town's work in
safeguarding the environment including its famous hortensia
gardens, valorization of history and tradition, and defence of
the local territory.
The other towns on the list are Bibury in England, Bonifacio in
France, Cesky Krumlov in Czech Republic, Cochem in Germany,
Ericeira in Portugal, Hall in Tirol in Austria, Reine in Norway,
Ronda in Spain and Sibiu in Romania.
Bolsena, which some historians says has Etruscan roots, is about
a two-hour drive north of Rome.
Its lake is the biggest volcanic lake in Europe.
"Small is beautiful" said Forbes.
