Nanni Moretti's latest film, A Brighter Tomorrow (Il Sol dell'Avvenire) was well received at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday, getting 13 minutes of applause at the end of a screening for the press.
The comedy-drama by Moretti, who won the 2001 Palme d'Or with The Son's Room, is one of three Italian films competing at the festival.
Marco Bellocchio's Rapito (Kidnapped), the true story of a six-year-old Jewish boy abducted by Pope Pius IX in the mid 19th century, was also received well on Wednesday.
The other Italian contender is Alice Rohrwacher's La Chimera.
