Rome's Teatro Sistina is set to
launch a summer academy to train theatre performers and
producers of the future.
The academy's programme will involve six to seven hours per
day of lessons in acting, singing, dancing, clowning, cartoon
dubbing, English, set design and visits within the city.
"This is a project I have been nurturing since I arrived,"
said Massimo Romeo Piparo, director of the Teatro Sistina and of
musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar and My Fair Lady.
"We will develop young talent, and we may see the next
Billy Elliot emerge… but we will also be really happy if this
programme also develops future organisers, theatre
administrators, and passionate spectators," he said.
Selection for the 25 posts available in the academy will be
open to young people between the ages of eight and 16, and
candidates will be chosen based especially on talent and
enthusiasm.
Lessons are scheduled for July 4-August 5 and August
29-September 15. The course will cost 1,480 euros although two
spots will be free for families with limited economic means.
