Italian director Paolo Virzì's 'La
Pazza Gioia' (Like Crazy) starring Micaela Ramazzotti and
Valeria Bruni Tedeschi received 10 minutes of applause at its
public screening in the Quinzaine des Realizateurs section of
the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.
The actresses were said to be in tears at the end of the
screening as an emotional Virzì thanked the audience.
"Merci Quinzaine," he said.
The film tells the story of the unlikely friendship between
two women patients at a psychiatric clinic as they seek freedom
and happiness in the 'outside' world.
It is one of three Italian movies competing in the
Quinzaine des Realizateurs section.
The others are Marco Bellocchio's 'Fai bei sogni' and
Claudio Giovannesi's 'Fiore'.
