The eighth meeting of the general
congregation of cardinals took place Friday morning, said the
director of the Vatican press office, Matteo Bruni. There were
more than 180 cardinals, and among them more than 120 electors.
Some 25 cardinals addressed the gathering, said Bruni.
Some 133 cardinal electors will take part in a conclave starting
next Wednesday to elect a successor to Pope Francis, who died of
a stroke following pneumonia on Easter Monday.
