A homeless man may have been chosen
for a young would-be hitman for the Camorra mafia to get his
'baptism of fire' in Naples at the end of July, police said
Monday.
Davide Fogler, a 56-year-old rough sleeper who sometimes worked
as a parker of cars, may have been shot dead as a "sort of
killer's baptism", they said, according to newspapers Il
Mattino, Il Messaggero and La Repubblica.
Fogler was shot dead in a Camorra-style hit at Bagnoli in Naples
on July 31.
The hit took place in front of many passersby but there has been
deep 'omertà' or mafia conspiracy of silence on the case.
Local media have likened it to something out of the hit Naples
mafia TV show Gomorra.
Fogler's death was initially ruled an accident but then the
autopsy found evidence of a shooting.
Among the other hypotheses police are weighing is that he was
shot by a young Camorrista in order to try out a new gun.
