Deputy Mayor Luigi Di Maio said
Monday it was "absurd" to revoke the police escort of a
mafia-threatened TV journalist.
The interior ministry has said it is revoking the escort for
Sandro Ruotolo, a left-leaning journalist who has been
threatened by the Naples Camorra mafia.
"Today I'm returning to Rome and I'll inquire into what has
happened," said Di Maio in his home town of Pomigliano d'Arco
near Naples.
"If a rash decision has been made, Ruotolo deserves an escort
because he is one of the journalists in this area who has fought
in the struggle against organised crime and the Camorra".
