Glaciers on the Dolomites have
reached a "point of no return", meaning they will continue to
melt and shrink even if global warming stops, according to a
research published on Thursday by the magazine The Cryosphere.
"They are not in balance anymore with today's climate", Andrea
Securo, a researcher at Venice's Ca' Foscari University and at
the Institute of Polar Sciences of the National Research Council
told ANSA.
"Except for particularly snowy years, they have no accumulation
areas anymore", said Securo, who led the research.
"There is no way out, they will disappear in a few decades", he
noted.
