The proportion of the Italian
population at risk of poverty and social exclusion rose to 23.1%
in 2024 from 22.8% the previous year, Istat said on Wednesday.
In particular, the percentage of individuals at risk of poverty
remained unchanged (18.9%) as well as of those facing a
condition of serious material and social deprivation (4.6%
compared to 4.7), while a slight increase was recorded among
individuals in families with low employment levels (from 8.9% to
9.2%).
Moreover the average annual income of families (37,511 euros)
increased in nominal terms (+4.2%) but decreased in real terms
(-1.6%) "due to inflation", said the national statistics bureau.
