Promoted Serie A side Como have said
they have given troubled former England midfielder Dele Alli the
chance to re-start his career, signing the 28-year-old on
18-month contract, with an option for a one-year extension.
Alli had been a free agent after his contract with Everton
expired at the end of last season.
The former Tottenham Hotspur player has been dogged by injuries
and has admitted to having mental-health problems and said he
was sexually abused as a child.
Como said the focus will be on providing Alli with a "supportive
environment where he can gradually integrate into the squad,"
stressing that there would be "no immediate performance
expectations" and they were confident he would make a
contribution on the pitch and as a mentor to their young
talents.
"The club believes in Dele's potential and is committed to
helping him rediscover his best form," said coach Cesc Fàbregas.
"His experience and leadership qualities will undoubtedly
benefit the squad."
Como are currently fourth-bottom in Serie A.
