A 14-year-old Chinese girl used the
internationally recognised 'signal for help' to alert a passing
police patrol in the Tuscan city of Prato that she was in danger
from her father's alleged continual abuse, local dailies
reported Thursday.
The police intervened and took the teenager out of her father's
grasp and she is now in a shelter for abused children, said La
Nazione and Il Tirreno.
The man has been cited for domestic abuse.
The signal consists of a thumb tucked into the palm of the hand
while wiggling the other four fingers.
