The Super League project, a proposed
seasonal football competition for club teams in Europe, risks
making Italy's Serie A premier league tournament marginal,
Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) President Giovanni
Malagò said on Thursday.
"I certainly cannot say (whether, with the Super League, the
Italian Scudetto will become waste paper), but the risk of it
becoming marginal in terms of interest exists," said Malagò
after the EU Court of Justice on Thursday ruled that the FIFA
and UEFA rules on prior approval of interclub football
competitions are contrary to EU law.
"I do not comment on rulings, I have never done so, even on
those that I do not understand or do not agree with," he added.
"In the face of this (ruling), the managing bodies will have to
find expedients and take countermeasures ... Now we have to see
what countermeasures FIFA and UEFA will take," said Malagò.
