Italy's civil servants are to get
performance-related bonuses under a new government directive
unveiled by Civil Service Minister Paolo Zangrillo Thursday to
help cut red tape and boost efficiency in the sector.
Zangrillo said the aim of the move, modelled on EU and OECD
examples, "is to implement a strategy of full enhancement of
merit in the organisational context".
Among other things, the directive "establishes that each
administration provides, within their respective systems, that
all personnel, starting from the management level, are
necessarily evaluated also with reference to the ability to
adequately exercise their leadership".
