The head of the ER at Bari hospital
said he was grateful to Italy's institutions after President
Sergio Mattarella intervened to get Labour Minister Marina
Calderone to scrub fines totalling 37,000 euros for him and
other staff for working overtime during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I am happy and grateful to the institutions, it is a
confirmation of the institutions' sensitivity," said the head of
the emergency department of the Bari General Hospital, Vito
Procacci, speaking to ANSA.
"I am grateful to the Head of State who is a father as well as a
defender of the Constitution".
Procacci was one of the three chiefs fined by the labour
inspectorate for excessive staff overtime during the Covid
emergency.
Procacci himself turned the spotlight on the affair by writing a
letter yesterday to President Mattarella, who today intervened
with Minister Calderone to suspend the fines totalling 37,000
euro.
