Italy saw record-breaking figures on
landings last Saturday, 26 August, when 3,042 arrivals were
recorded - according to the Viminale (interior ministry)
dashboard - the highest number in recent months (in the same
period last year there were 443).
As far as reception is concerned, Lombardy is the region with
the highest number of migrants, followed by Emilia Romagna,
Sicily (on which the presences in hotspots also weigh),
Piedmont, Lazio and Campania, Tuscany, Veneto and Puglia.
This is what emerges from the statistical data provided
fortnightly by the government, the latest processing of which
dates back to 15 August. As of 31 July, Sicily was the region
with the highest number of migrants in SAI asylum and
immigration reception and integration centres: 5,332.
Migrant arrivals to Italy have more than doubled this year
compared to last, the Viminale says.
