Pope Francis on Thursday paid a visit to child cancer patients at Rome's Gemelli hospital where he is convalescing from abdominal surgery to repair a hernia caused by a 2021 operation.
Sources said the visit was emotional.
In March the pope made a visit to the same pediatric oncology
ward while recovering from a bronchial infection.
On that occasion, he took the children rosaries, chocolate eggs
and copies of the book "Jesus Was Born in Bethlehem Judea",
papal sources said.
On Wednesday the Vatican press office said "in the afternoon
hours Pope Francis continued working, punctuated by rest and
recuperation, continuing his convalescence".
Earlier the day it said the pope's clinical course was
proceeding regularly and that medical staff were "planning his
discharge for the next few days".
