Italy's wine sector risks losing two
billion euros in revenue from the United States market because
of the combined effects of US President Donald Trump's tariffs
and new consumption trends among young people, the Federvini
association of wine producers and exporters said on Monday.
"We need a strategic vision for Italian wine, the time for
isolated reactions is over," said Federvini President Micaela
Pallini at the Vinitaly wine fair in Verona.
"With the tariffs and and the radical consumption transformation
of young people, two billion euros are at risk on a market, the
United States, that is difficult to replace.
"We need direction and a far-reaching vision.
"Defending wine today equals safeguarding the image of Italy
around the world. "Indeed, the 20% duties on Italian wines risk
knocking us off American shelves to the advantage of other
competitors".
