Tunisia needs a pragmatic approach
and an initial tranche of IMF funds should be given, tying the
rest to the implementation of reforms, Foreign Minister Antonio
Tajani told a press conference with US Secretary of State Antony
Blinken in Washington Monday.
"I informed (Blinken) about (Premier Giorgia) Meloni's trip to
Tunisia, we want good solutions, we have to be pragmatic,
continue to talk with the Tunisians to find an agreement with
the EU, with Italy, with the IMF", said Tajani, referring to the
Italian PM's mission to Tunis Sunday with Euroepan Commission
President Ursula von der Leyen and Dutch Prime Minister Mark
Rutte.
Tajani relaunched the Italian proposal to work to give an
initial tranche of funding from the IMF and then tie the
subsequent tranches to the implementation of reforms, Italian
diplomatic sources said.
