A new research institute on Wine,
Diet and Health (Istituto per la Ricerca su Vino, Alimentazione
e Salute) was presented in Rome on Thursday.
The institute aims to promote knowledge of the Mediterranean
diet and moderate wine consumption in relation to health and
well being and local culture and traditions.
The mission of the institute, headed by Luigi Tonino Marsella of
the Roma Tor Vergata University, is particularly topical at the
moment with Ireland seeking to bring in health warnings on the
labels of alcoholic drinks like those on cigarette packets - a
move Italy staunchly opposes.
