Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio
expressed support for La Stampa on Friday after the Russian
Ambassador to Rome Sergey Razov embarked on legal action against
the Turin-based newspaper over an article.
Razov filed a complaint with Rome prosecutors on Friday over an
article published on March 22 looking at the possibility of
Russian President Vladimir Putin being murdered by someone in
his homeland, arguing this was instigation to commit a crime.
"La Stampa is doing its job, like all our news organs, reporting
what is happening, including the atrocities of the war in
Ukraine," Di Maio said via Twitter.
"Press freedom is untouchable in Italy. Onward without
censorship.
"Solidarity to (La Stampa Editor) Massimo Giannini and his
reporters".
