The family of Stefano Cucchi, a
30-year-old Roman draughtsman beaten to death in a Rome prison
after being detained on a minor drugs charge in October 2009, on
Friday asked a Rome trial of eight Carabinieri accused of
cover-ups in the case for over two million euros in damages and
additional compensation of 750,000 euros.
"We can't take it any more," said Cucchi family lawyer Fabio
Anselmo.
"We were cannon fodder for these people, but we are human
beings: they did everything hey could to hide grievous
responsibilities".
