Italian Alpine skier Elena
Fanchini denied Friday that a social-media post showing her in
tears following a serious injury was an announcement that she
was retiring from competition.
"My outpouring of emotion was the fruit of a moment of
dismay," said the 33-year-old, who had recently returned to
action after beating cancer.
"I never announced I was retiring. I'll take a decision about
my future after the clinical tests".
This week the skier suffered an injury in training in which
she broke a leg and it is suspected that she may have damaged
ligaments too.
Fanchini has two career World Cup wins, both in the downhill,
and took silver at the 2005 world championships in the same
discipline.
Her younger sister Nadia still races for the Italian national
team while her other sister, Sabrina, retired from competition
in 2016.
