Reggio Calabria chief prosecutor Federico Cafiero de Raho was appointed Italy's new national anti-mafia prosecutor on Wednesday. De Raho was voted in unanimously by the judiciary's self-governing body, the CSM, after Palermo prosector Roberto Scarpinato withdrew his bid on Tuesday. The 65-year-old Neapolitan served for many years in his home town and his name is linked to the 'Spartacus' trial, which led to the first informant of the Casalesi clan of the Camorra mafia, Carmine Schiavone.
De Raho replaces Franco Roberti, who is retiring.
