Pope Francis on Friday expressed his solidarity with France and the victims of Thursday evening's terrorist attack in Nice, condemning "every manifestation of homicidal folly, hatred, terrorism, and attacks against peace".
"We have followed during the night, with the greatest concern, the terrible news which has come from Nice," Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said.
"We want to make known, on the part of Pope Francis and
ourselves, our sharing and solidarity in the suffering of the
victims and all the French people, in what was supposed to be a
great day of celebration," he continued.
"We condemn in an absolute manner every manifestation of
homicidal folly, hatred, terrorism, and attacks against peace."
At least 84 people are known to have died and over 100 more
were injured after a lorry ploughed into crowds gathered to
watch a Bastille Day fireworks display on the Nice seafront.
