Singer-songwriter Gianmaria Testa died on Wednesday at age 57 at a clinic in Alba, about an hour south of Turin.
He had announced last year that he had an inoperable tumor.
Born in Cavallermaggiore in the region of Piedmont, Testa
was originally a railway worker.
He began his musical career in 1993 when he won first place
at the Recanati Music Festival.
He performed over 3,000 concerts across Europe and in North
America during his career, across which he produced eight
albums, the last in 2013.
He also wrote children's books with accompanying CDs.
His most recent novel, whose title translates to "From This
Side of the Sea" after his 2006 album, is based on contemporary
migration and scheduled to hit bookshop shelves on April 19.
